Meet Mandelic Acid: our latest obsession!

Meet Mandelic Acid: our latest obsession!

The latest exciting launch from NIP+FAB, Charcoal + Mandelic Fix, has everyone wanting to know more about Mandelic Acid! This high-performing ingredient has flown under the radar for quite some time but deserves its moment in the spotlight, boasting a list of incredible benefits for the skin.

What is Mandelic Acid?

Mandelic Acid is a form of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) derived from bitter almonds. AHA's are a group of chemical exfoliants which gently loosen the 'glue' that holds dead cells on the surface of the skin. Mandelic Acid is one of the most gentle AHA's due to its unique molecular makeup. It has a larger molecular structure (when compared to other AHA's like Glycolic Acid) which means it penetrates the skin slower, reducing the chance of overly drying or irritating the skin.

Why it is a must in your skincare routine:

Mandelic Acid has many amazing benefits for the skin, and is fantastic for both experienced chemical exfoliant users, and those who are new to it.

  • Exfoliates: Mandelic Acid gently removes layers of older skin cells, revealing the fresh, healthy skin beneath.
  • Promotes cell turnover: by removing the dead skin cells attached to the surface of the skin, Mandelic Acid works to increase cell turnover, reducing the appearance of skin damage, acne and enlarged pores.
  • Brightens skin: exfoliated skin appears brighter and Mandelic Acid goes a step further, strengthening the skin so it looks healthy and radiant with continued use.
  • Reduces hyper-pigmentation and/or acne scarring: increased cell turnover and exfoliating properties means the look of dark marks, sun damage and acne scarring fades over time.

How to use it:

Due to its gentle nature, Mandelic Acid works well with most other active ingredients, making it easy to incorporate into your daily routine. It works particularly well with hydrating ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, to restore moisture in the skin and increase radiance. If using ingredients like Retinol in your routine, it is best to alternate these two ingredients - i.e. use Retinol one night, and Mandelic Acid the next.

TIP: remember to always conduct a patch test in an inconspicuous area of the face (we like behind the ear) to ensure you will not react to the product before using all over!

The NIP+FAB Charcoal + Mandelic Fix range has a variety of different products, making it easy to work Mandelic Acid into your routine no matter your preference of product. Here are some of our favourites:

The Quick Fix

Charcoal + Mandelic Fix Mud Sheet Mask

This unique sheet mask is pre-soaked in Charcoal, Mandelic Acid and Kaolin Clay, giving all the benefits of a detoxifying mud mask but in a mess-free application. This mask comes with 2 sections; one for the top of the face, and one for the bottom - making application even easier and allows for a snug fit. Leave on for 10-15 minutes for a fresh and radiant complexion!

The Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

Charcoal + Mandelic Fix Cleansing Bar

The cleansing bar is a favourite of ours here at Beauty Connections HQ! The bar shape allows it to be used on the face and body, helping to tackle congestion all over (maskne and bacne be gone!).

The Heavy Lifter

Charcoal + Mandelic Fix Serum

Containing 4% Mandelic Acid, the serum is the most active product in the line-up, however still gentle enough for every day use. A perfect choice for those tackling hard to treat concerns like hyperpigmentation or acne scarring.
